EDUCATION

Pinchgut Opera has established two specific and important education programs to support the next generation of Australian Baroque specialists. Each program is tailored for high impact, one-on-one learning and focusses on the essential knowledge and performance opportunities required to reach the international standard of excellence Pinchgut is renowned for.

TARYN FIEBIG SCHOLAR

In honour of the significant legacy Taryn Fiebig created through her inspiring body of work, Pinchgut Opera has established the Taryn Fiebig Scholar program for an emerging Australian opera singer of special potential.

One Scholar will be selected annually, and will be in place for a two-year period. The scholar will participate in Pinchgut Opera productions and events with a mentorship program focussing on:

  • The importance of text and expression
  • The creation and projection of vocal beauty
  • Approaching a musical score and libretto as a singing actor
  • Posture, dance, gesture and movement to portray a character
  • How and when to stand forward and claim the limelight
  • Fostering a collegiate approach with respect to every member of the company
  • Their unique contribution to a performance of excellence.

CONTINUO MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

The Continuo Mentorship Program seeks to identify and develop the next generation of Australian-based harpsichord and continuo players, addressing a severe shortfall in training in this area. The primary aim of the program will be to develop and nourish stylish and effective performances and collaborations with other instrumentalists and vocalists.

The Continuo Mentorship Program will create opportunities to engage with and learn from Artistic Director and harpsichordist/conductor Erin Helyard, Orchestra of the Antipodes continuo players (eg theorbo, harp, and bowed bass), principal singers, and other historically-informed specialists engaged for Pinchgut operas and/or concerts.

The participant will develop musical skills and experience throughout the year with which they can then utilise to further develop their career and will maintain connections with Pinchgut Opera for future seasons and other potential performance opportunities.

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which we work and perform, the Gadigal people of the Eora nation – the first storytellers and singers of songs.
We pay our respects to their elders past and present.
