As one of the truly versatile and fearless baritones of his generation, Morgan Pearse is internationally recognised for his vibrant stage presence and expressive musicality across opera, concert, and early music. In 2025, he sings Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor for Opera Holland Park, Mercutio in Roméo et Juliette with State Opera South Australia, Uberto in La serva padrona for Pinchgut Opera, and appears with the Melbourne, Adelaide and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras.
A highly regarded interpreter of baroque and early music, Morgan has sung Achilla in Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto for Opera Omaha and in concert with the Moscow Philharmonic, Valens in Theodora and Araspe in Tolomeo at the Karlsruhe Händelfestpiele, and appeared at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music as Nero in Kaiser’s Octavia and Almiro in Pasquini’s Idalma. His concert engagements in this repertoire have featured Bach’s St. John Passion with The English Concert, Handel’s Solomon with Opéra Royal de Versailles and Temple Music Foundation, Handel’s Messiah with both the London Handel Festival and Britten Sinfonia, and the Brockes Passion with the London Handel Festival.
Morgan’s broader operatic roles range from Scarpia in Tosca (Opera Holland Park), to Escamillo in Carmen and Enrico (State Opera South Australia), as well as title roles in Don Giovanni (Verbier Festival), The Barber of Seville (English National Opera), and Le nozze di Figaro (Opernhaus Zürich). Other notable performances include Papageno (Die Zauberflöte) and Figaro at the Badisches Staatstheater, Masetto (Don Giovanni) and Belcore (L’elisir d’amore) for New Zealand Opera, and the title role in Billy Budd at the Bolshoi Theatre.
He has collaborated with leading orchestras and ensembles throughout the UK, Europe, and Australia, among them the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, King’s College Choir Cambridge, The Philharmonia Orchestra, CBSO, English Chamber Orchestra, Gabrieli Consort, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, RTVE Madrid, and the orchestras of Zürich Opera and La Scintilla. His symphonic and concert repertoire includes Britten’s War Requiem (Staatsoper Hannover) and Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony (BBC Symphony Orchestra), among many others.
An active recording artist, Morgan appears on Handel: Brockes-Passion and the Gramophone Award-winning album Dussek: Messe Solennelle, both with the Academy of Ancient Music (AAM). He is featured on the critically acclaimed release of Pasquini’s Idalma from the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music (CPO), the world premiere recording of Eleanor Alberga’s The Soul’s Expression with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales (Lyrita), and Dame Ethel Smyth’s Der Wald with the BBC Concert Orchestra and BBC Singers.
He is a former first prize winner of the prestigious Cesti Competition and recipient of the Lies Askonas Prize from the Royal College of Music and the Gold Medal of the Royal Over-Seas League.
