Director

Netia Jones is a director, designer and film-maker in opera, theatre and classical
music. She is Associate Director of the Royal Opera in London and the director of
Lightmap, a creative studio working worldwide.

Recent projects include Pelléas et Mélisande (Santa Fe Opera); Le nozze di Figaro (Opéra national de Paris); Peter Grimes (Gothenburg Opera), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Garsington Opera, Santa Fe Opera), Least Like the Other (Irish National Opera, Royal Ballet & Opera); Macbeth (New Zealand Opera); Orphée (English National Opera); Die Zauberflöte (Garsington Opera); An Anatomy of Melancholy (Barbican); The Dark Mirror: Zender’s Winterreise (Lincoln Centre NYC, Shanghai, Perth, Taiwan and Barbican Theatre London); Amadigi (Garsington Opera), Atthis and Kafka Fragments (RBO); Curlew
River (Barbican Theatre, Lincoln Centre, CalPerformances, Berkeley); A Midsummer
Night’s Dream (Aldeburgh Festival); Messiah (Bergen International Festival); Alice in
Wonderland (LA Phil, Barbican Theatre); Words and Music, From An Abandoned
Work and Stirrings Still (Happy Days International Beckett Festival); Where the Wild
Things Are (LA Phil, Barbican Theatre, Aldeburgh Festival).

Together with Lightmap, she has created multimedia concert installations including The Outcast (Olga Neuwirth) for Wien Modern Festival, Elbphilharmonie and Philharmonie de Paris, Verklärte Nacht for Orchestre National de Lyon and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and Electric Fields with Barbara Hannigan, Katia and Marielle Labèque, David Chalmin and Bryce Dessner, for Los Angeles Philharmonic. She has also created film and digital performances including The Soldiers Tale with Esa-Pekka Salonen for San Francisco Symphony, Erwartung for Bergen International Festival, and the VR opera Current Rising, for Royal Ballet and Opera.

Netia Jones and Lightmap have also created site specific performances
including Everlasting Light at Sizewell nuclear power station and The Way To The
Sea for Aldeburgh Festival.
