Philip Barton is an accomplished bass-baritone with extensive experience in opera, choral, and concert performances. He holds a Bachelor of Music Studies from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he studied under renowned coach Andrew Dalton, and refined his craft at the International Summer Academy in Vienna with Professor Sebastian Vittucci. He was also a Young Artist with The Song Company.
Philip’s operatic credits include roles with Pinchgut Opera, such as La Vengeance in Medée (2022), and chorus appearances in Platée, Theodora, and Iphigénie en Tauride. He has sung in the chorus for Opera Australia and performed with ensembles such as Cantillation and the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs. His
versatility has led to a wide range of musical appearances, including work in both opera and musical theatre.
Philip’s international experience includes performing as Sarastro in The Magic Flute with Heritage Opera in the UK, alongside working with a range of London-based choirs and recording voiceover projects. While in London, he also performed with the a cappella group Evoke Vocal Ensemble and studied under acclaimed mezzo-soprano Caitlin Hulcup, further honing his craft.
In addition to performing, Philip is a dedicated voice tutor who enjoys working with ensembles and young soloists to help them achieve their musical goals. He is looking forward to returning to his musical home at Pinchgut Opera this season.
