Soprano

Australian/British soprano Samantha Clarke is a recent graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Samantha will make her Opera Australia debut in 2024 as Violetta La traviata.

In the 2022/23 season Samantha sings the title role in La traviata for the West Australian Opera, Fiordiligi Così fan tutte for Opera Queensland and the Grange Festival, Marzelline in concert performances of Fidelio with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra/Simone Young and Britten’s War Requiem with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra/Jaime Martin.

Recent highlights have included Tytania A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the Grange Festival; Musetta La bohème and Flower Maiden Parsifal for Opera North; Adina L’elisir d’amore for West Green House Opera; the title role in The Golden Cockerel for the Adelaide Festival; the title role in the Buxton Festival’s award-winning pasticcio Georgiana; Anne Trulove The Rake’s Progress for British Youth Opera; Mozart’s Requiem with the Britten Sinfonia/David Bates at the BBC Proms and Beethoven’s Symphony no. 9 with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra/Eivind Aadland.

Samantha was the recipient of an Independent Opera Voice Scholarship in 2016 and a Voice Fellowship in 2019, and she won the 2019 Guildhall Gold Medal and 2nd Prize and the Audience Prize in the 2019 Grange Festival International Singing Competition. Her previous awards have included the 2017 RNCM Gold Medal, the Nora Goodridge Developing Artist Award, the Dame Eva Turner Award and the Michael and Joyce Kennedy Award for the Singing of Strauss. She is supported by the Australian Music Foundation.
